I made Harry Potter Style scarves for our children, their spouses, grandchildren and some of our great nieces and nephews.

I did these with a 9.5 inch round loom, 36 pegs and the scarves are about 6 inches in width.
You can use a smaller or larger loom to change the width.

Materials:
Yarn
Loom
Scissors
Knitting pick
Crochet hook
Yarn: brand of yarn is not important but use the same weights.
Yarn colors for different houses:
Hufflepuff: yellow and black (I used a pale yellow and black)
Ravenclaw: blue and silver (movie) or bronze (book) (I used royal blue and grey)
Gryffindor: scarlet and gold (I used burgundy and gold)
Slytherin: green and silver (I used Hunter Green and grey)
Notes:
Rather than weaving in the tails, I didn’t cut the yarn between bands. I brought the yarn through the center of the tube of knitting and dropped it when I was not using it. It you use this method make sure you don’t pull the yarn to tightly and create a pleat in the tube.
Directions:
Begin with the darker house color.
Leaving a tail, anchor your yarn and e-wrap the loom twice.
Knit over.
E-wrap, anchor and knit over.
Repeat for 10 rows. Anchor your yarn and cut or drop.
Leave tails about 3-4 inches to allow for weaving in the yarn.
Change to the lighter house color.
Leave a tail.
Anchor your lighter color yarn, e-wrap and knit over.
Continue for 10 rows. Stop and change colors.
Repeat in 10 rows of alternating colors until you have reached an appropriate length of scarf. End with the darker color. (I did 19 bands of color)
Cast off.
Weave in any tails left on the wrong side.
Lay the tube flat. I suggest you align one flat edge with the location where you change colors of yarn.
Make the fringe with the yarns. Cut strands to an appropriate length. My first one I did with 12 inches. I decided this was short and lengthened the others to bout 16 inches.
Organize the yarn into sets of about 7 strands of light or dark yarn. You will need 10 sets of the darker shade and 8 of the lighter shade.
Attach these to each end of the scarf with 5 of the darker and 4 of the lighter color at each end. I did this by folding the cut strands in half. I used the crochet hook to pull the center of the folded yarn partially through both sides of the knitted tube. Pull the cut ends of yarn through the curved loop of yarn and pull tight. You should alternate your light and dark colors.
I suggest you start with the middle tassel of the fringe, then do each end and fill in the others. It is easy to do one backwards so watch out for that.
Trim the ends of the yarn even if needed.
